Cornwall Air Ambulance

Nobody wakes up expecting to take a ride in an air ambulance, but each day the highly-skilled critical care paramedics, doctors and pilots of Cornwall Air Ambulance attend an average of three people in need of urgent critical care.

Everybody knows of somebody who has been airlifted and nobody knows who might need it next. When every minute matters, the speed of the air ambulance can be the difference between life and death, between a family kept together or broken apart.

The rural nature of Cornwall makes the air ambulance essential to treat the most critically ill patients in the county. By road it could take hours to reach hospital, by air it is minutes.

Meeting saved patients and learning about their experiences is always an emotional time. Read the stories below to learn how those patients survived their darkest hours thanks to Cornwall Air Ambulance and the support given to them.

Our partnership

We are committed to help support and fundraise for this vital service which is not only of huge benefit to visitors to the County but also to local people who rely daily on the service it provides.

We are proud to have the Air Ambulance fly with our Estate branding and are delighted that we are able to offer our financial support to them.

How can you help?

The Estate encourages voluntary guest donations through its hotel and property in-room guest tablets which provide informative and educational information on Cornwall Air Ambulance. A selection of air ambulance merchandise will be available from the Estate’s retail outlets with all profits going directly to them.

You will notice a discretionary donation of £10 on your bill when you stay with us. We hope you will join us in supporting this vital cause but if you wish for the donation to be removed from your bill please ask on departure.

Stephen Baker, Managing Director of Carbis Bay Estate said: “As one of the leading hospitality providers in Cornwall we feel obligated to support this vital emergency service to not only the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly community but to all our visitors to the region during peak periods. It is crucial that such services have the funds to continue their work. We have great respect for the team at Cornwall Air Ambulance and are delighted to be able to contribute financially as well as spreading the message of support to our wider guest audience. It is not widely known that Cornwall Air Ambulance is only able to operate due to the generosity of donations from commercial and individual sponsors, lacking Government/NHS funding.”

Tim Bunting, CEO of Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, said: “We are hugely grateful that Carbis Bay Estate have chosen to support Cornwall Air Ambulance with a two-year partnership. It is thanks to the generous support of Carbis Bay, the wider business community, and donors that we are able to carry out our lifesaving missions across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, providing critical care to patients in their time of need. It costs over £5m a year to keep your charity running and we rely on the generosity of the people of Cornwall and beyond to make this happen. Thank you to Carbis Bay Estate for helping us to provide the best possible critical care to our patients, keeping more families together.”

The commitment to support Cornwall Air Ambulance is in addition to the ongoing support for the Estate’s other chosen charities and support groups.

Fund raising targets

The Estate has a programme of community engagement with the Carbis Bay Estate Christmas Market, Cornwall Air Ambulance being the beneficiary of all proceeds generated by stallholder pitch fees over the four-day period. In 2022, the market attracted over 50 stalls per day helping to raise £6,021. Thanks to the support of Tristan Bourdeaux, Relationship Director, Lloyds Commercial Banking, an additional pledge from the management and staff to support the fundraising effort, an additional £5,500 was added bringing the total raised to £11,521.

Please join us at our Christmas Market in 2023 on the 2nd & 3rd of December and the 9th & 10th of December. If you would like to book a stall at the market please get in touch with us on 01736 795311.

Throughout 2023, a fundraising dinner and further promotional activities will be hosted on the Estate.
